Web design & WordPress development
Web design built to ship, hold up, and earn its keep.
A custom-built website should be an investment, not a line item. I design and build WordPress sites that turn traffic into customers, for small businesses, higher ed, and the public sector. Based in Roanoke, Virginia. Available worldwide.
What I do
The shape of a typical web design engagement.
-
Custom WordPress design
Bespoke themes built around your brand, not template swaps. Editorial typography, mobile-first responsive layouts, and an admin your team can actually use without a developer in the loop.
-
Modern web performance
Sites that load in under a second on real connections, score 95+ on Lighthouse, and stay fast as content grows. Lean asset pipelines, edge caching, WebP imagery, no plugin sprawl.
-
SEO & AEO discoverability
Findable in Google AND in the AI answer engines that are quietly replacing search (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Claude). Structured data, schema.org markup, semantic HTML, llms.txt, and copy tuned for the way people now ask questions.
-
Marketing, conversions, and analytics
The site has a job: turn traffic into customers, students, donors, deals. Conversion design, clear calls to action, lead-capture forms that actually capture, email and CRM integrations, and analytics so you know whether any of it is working. WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility is the floor.
Common questions
What people ask when starting a web design project.
- Do you offer web design services in Roanoke, Virginia?
- Yes. I am based in Roanoke and work with small businesses and organizations across the Roanoke Valley, Blacksburg, Lynchburg, and the Blue Ridge region in person, and remote clients worldwide.
- What does a web design project cost?
- Engagements scale with scope. A simple marketing site (the Simple Sites tier) typically lands in the low five figures. A custom WordPress build with editorial admin tooling, AI integrations, or multiple location pages can run substantially higher. Every proposal is fixed-fee with a defined deliverables list, no hourly billing surprises.
- How long does a web design and development project take?
- Most engagements run four to eight weeks from kickoff to launch. Discovery and strategy take one to two weeks; design and build take two to four weeks; review, revisions, and launch prep take another one to two. Bigger platforms run longer; very simple sites sometimes ship inside three weeks.
- Do you only build on WordPress?
- WordPress is the default for most engagements because it gives clients an admin they can run themselves long after launch. For specific cases (very high-traffic marketing sites, headless front-ends, app-style products) I also build with React, Next.js, or static-site generators on AWS infrastructure I keep tuned. The right tool for the project, not the right tool for me.
- Will my website be accessible and SEO-friendly?
- Yes. WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility is the floor, not the ceiling. Every site ships with semantic HTML, schema.org structured data, sitemaps, performance budgets, and a content architecture tuned for both Google and AI answer engines. SEO is not a phase added at the end; it is a property of how the site is built.
- Do you offer ongoing maintenance after launch?
- Yes. Two flat-rate care plans plus a custom retainer option are described on the services page. Updates, backups, security, performance monitoring, small content edits, and a real human reachable when something breaks.
