Challenge

Black Dog Salvage has been reclaiming architectural treasures in Roanoke since 1999 and is known from the television show Salvage Dawgs. Its inventory changes daily and sells in several places: an online shop on BigCommerce, an eBay store, and a showroom and campus in Roanoke.

The homepage has one job: send each visitor to the right one of those places, and keep the company’s story in front of them on the way.

Approach

The homepage went through four design versions with the company’s branding director. Rather than wait for perfect, it launched once version four was a clear improvement over the old page, and refinement continued in production.

The new homepage was built as blocks inside the site’s existing theme, so nothing else on the site had to change, and the team can edit every section themselves.

Delivery

Fifteen editable sections make up the homepage, including a hero, shop categories with the company’s own photography, a feature on the Salvage Dawgs show, the Roanoke campus and its locations, and the custom design studio. Every link points at its real destination: BigCommerce categories, the Loft Gallery, the marketplace, the paint line, directions, and the new eBay store.

The header menus and footer columns now come from WordPress menus, so the team changes navigation without code. Separately, after bot traffic took the site offline in the summer, Cloudflare was put in front of it to filter that traffic out.

Outcome

The new homepage launched on October 5, 2026. Visitors now reach the online shop, the eBay store, and the showroom from the first screen, and the branding team can edit the homepage and the navigation directly.
